Final Thoughts Script
(FALL 2022) - For this assignment, we were put into a team of four and given the subject of the student. We had to create beats, a script for a trailer and a script. My team was inspired by the dynamic of how a team works, specifically when a teacher randomly assigns them. We followed Blake Snyder’s Save the Cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You’ll Ever Need to help us concept the idea.
Story Beats
Opening image: Quinn accidentally goes to the wrong group, is embarrassed.
Quinn looks down at her phone to see the text of where her group is meeting. She notices a table of well put together students and eagerly walks towards them. They inform Quinn that her group is actually the table behind them.
Quinn gets overly excited and starts talking with wrong group, then they shut her down
Theme stated: Bennet explains how his roommates and him came together and bonded over something funny.
You can learn a lot from and find unexpected joy with people unlike you
Great ideas come from unexpected places
Quinn walks up to the table of two people. Asks Bennett “aren’t there supposed to be four of us?” Then he says something that states the theme TBD.
Set-up: The group talks about when the project is due.
We learn what they are working on, when it is due, etc… Then we see each character’s tic. Bennett goes on a rant about a book, we start to see Alexis boil over, anxiety already at a high, she interrupts his story several times, then finally snaps
Presentation premise: make a presentation on something people aren’t aware is happening
Catalyst: The group shares what they think the project should be, shows their distinct personalities
They each share what they think the project should be, shows their distinct personalities
Debate: Ideas are shared, nothing concrete is chosen, they can’t agree on anything.
A whole day in the library passes. Nate never shows up. Quinn questions if she should join another group. Lots and lots of bad ideas passed around, frustrating.
Break-into-two: Alexis has to choose whether to work with the group, or find an alternative way to finish off her semester.
Alexis finally breaks down a little after a long day of working and says why she really wants it to be good, they share a little bit of their “why?” and they call on Quinn to help
Nate ends up being the muse because he’s so unique, find a compromise through nate
B Story: Nate, the fourth member of the group shows up, he’s an outcast, he has weird hobbies.
Nate shows up at midnight, there’s something off about him, he’s covered in mud and has no personal belongings with him (later contributes to the good idea) (HE WAS NOODLING)
Fun and Games: - Concepting ideas from the whole group.
They roll with an idea
We really start to see each person's personality
SPACE JUNK
Midpoint: They all are getting ready to hang out, outside of class, they start to bond.
They all really start to get along, see compromises. Someone brings wine/weed to the library and they all just have fun for a night
Bad Guys Close in: Quinn accidentally tells Jenny their idea, later to be stolen.
Quinn talks with the group she thought was hers at the beginning, trying to impress them. They end up taking her idea, but she doesn’t know it yet.
All is Lost: Jenny steals their idea and presents it to the class, the group finds out and doesn’t have a backup.
Professor comes in and asks each group to share their progress, they learn the idea was stolen
Dark Night of the Soul: The group fights and accuses each other, they still don’t have another idea.
Break Into Three: Nate presents noodling idea in an improvisational fashion.
BIG BOY FIGHT AB EVERYONE'S PERSONALITY TRAITS
Finale: They apologize to each other, and work out their differences.
Big cram session, they call Nate,
Montage of them all working, operatic section
Final Image: They realize they are a good group, with a good idea, and will do fine.
Quinn looks at her group, all standing up to present, they are smiling and confident in themselves. Quinn looks up to the audience, about to speak. Cut to black.
